Description

A hearty classic homemade chili that’s perfect for chilly evenings and gatherings, featuring ground beef, beans, and a rich blend of spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth (optional)
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat until fully cooked, then drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion begins to soften.
  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper, letting the spices awaken their flavors.
  4. Toss in the kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, and beef broth. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. For stovetop cooking, let it simmer for around 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For slow cooker, transfer the mixture and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Feel free to customize with different meats or beans. It’s great the next day.
