Description

A rich and creamy Indian butter chicken dish, marinated for flavor and cooked in a luxurious sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 600 g chicken breast, diced
  • 150 g natural yogurt
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • 400 g crushed tomatoes
  • 150 ml cream (or coconut milk for lactose-free)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, mix all marinade ingredients. Add the chicken, coat well, and let it marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best results).
  2. Sear the Chicken: Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until golden brown, roughly 6–8 minutes. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In the same pan, melt the butter and sauté the onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional minute.
  4. Add Spices and Tomatoes: Stir in coriander, Garam Masala, and chili powder (if using). Pour in the crushed tomatoes and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Incorporate Cream: Stir in the cream and sugar, allowing it to simmer for another 5 minutes. Season with salt to taste.
  6. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return the chicken to the pan, mixing well. Let everything simmer together for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Serve: Garnish with fresh coriander and enjoy it with basmati rice or naan!

Notes

Allow the chicken to marinate overnight for enhanced flavor and tenderness. Adjust spices according to taste preferences.
