Description

A hearty homemade chili recipe that combines beans, zesty tomatoes, and savory meat for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth)
  • Optional toppings: Shredded cheese, Sour cream, Chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, sautéing until they’re softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, cooking for another minute.
  4. Add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until it’s browned.
  5. Drain any excess fat from the pot.
  6. Mix in the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  7. Pour in the beef broth and stir well to combine.
  8. Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  9. Serve hot, topped with your choice of shredded cheese, sour cream, and green onions.

Notes

For a lighter option, swap ground beef for turkey. You can customize beans or spices to suit your taste.
