- 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Boil the sweet potatoes in a pot of salted water until they’re tender, roughly 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, drain and mash them.
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes with the milk, melted butter, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and cinnamon. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Transfer the sweet potato mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs, shredded cheese (if you’re using it), and chopped pecans (if desired). Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the sweet potato layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the topping turns golden brown.
- Serve hot and enjoy!

For a dairy-free version, swap milk with unsweetened almond milk and use dairy-free butter.
