Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz chicken sausage, sliced into rounds
- 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the oil: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
- Cook the sausage: Add the sliced chicken sausage and let it brown for about 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add garlic: Next, stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute, or until it becomes fragrant.
- Toast the orzo: Add the uncooked orzo to the skillet. Stir frequently, toasting it lightly for 1-2 minutes.
- Simmer: Pour in the chicken broth and bring everything to a simmer. Lower the heat, cover, and let it cook for about 8 minutes.
- Add broccoli: Toss in the broccoli florets, cover, and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes until the orzo is tender and the broccoli is bright green.
- Finish up: Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, if desired.
Notes
Feel free to substitute turkey sausage or vegetable broth for a lighter or vegetarian option. Garnish with herbs or extra Parmesan for added flavor.
