Description

A comforting dish with creamy layers of butternut squash, flavored with sage and garlic, perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium butternut squash, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh sage, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated cheese for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Sauté the shallots and garlic until they soften, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Stir in the fresh sage and let it cook for another minute.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream and simmer gently, then remove from heat.
  5. Grease a baking dish and layer the butternut squash slices, seasoning each layer with salt and pepper.
  6. Evenly pour the creamy mixture over the squash slices.
  7. Sprinkle grated cheese on top for a golden crust, if desired.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the squash is tender and the top is golden brown.
  9. Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or nut-based cream for a dairy-free option. Adding a layer of ricotta can enhance creaminess.
