Description

A comforting dish featuring savory beef patties smothered in rich gravy, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (For thickening gravy)
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, finely diced onion, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 6-8 oval patties and allow them to rest while you prepare the gravy.
  3. Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium heat and melt a touch of butter. Brown the patties for about 3-4 minutes per side until they are golden brown. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions in the remaining butter until soft. Sprinkle in the flour, stirring for about 2 minutes until lightly browned.
  5. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream until the mixture is smooth and cohesive.
  6. Return the browned patties to the skillet, ensuring they are partially submerged in the savory gravy.
  7. Cover the skillet tightly and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes. Remove the cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  8. Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables. For a lighter version, replace heavy cream with half-and-half or milk.
